Description
Translated as “spice” in Arabic, Baharat is slightly hot, warm and full flavored, making it a distinctive feature of Middle Eastern cuisine. This spice mix is hand-blended , mixing sweet spices such as cinnamon, cumin, coriander, cardamom, nutmeg and cloves, with black peppercorns and paprika. Baharat, which has regional variations, is a North African spice mix used in Lebanon, Syria, Israel and Jordan.
Suggested Use: Often used to season lamb, but also an all-purpose flavor enhancer for fish, chicken, beef, lentils, tomato sauces and soups. Use as a rub for virtually anything on the grill. Traditionally, Baharat is used similarly to the way India uses garam masala. Add to a pan with a little butter to disperse flavors before frying. Use to spice up plain meatloaf.
